Staying Positive to Remain Motivated

Have you ever met one of “those” people? You know who I mean, the ones who are eternally happy and optimistic no matter what is going on in their lives? Building your self-image and positive change is a choice, and it is in your control.

Self-esteem is the single most significant key to a person’s behavior and low self-esteem puts a ceiling on our potential. The value we place on ourselves is usually the value others place on us. It’s John Maxwell’s Law of the Mirror – you must see value in yourself and add value to yourself.

It’s human nature to compare to others but comparing yourself to others only hinders the ability to grow. For years I refused to run in races because I was slower than others. I really wanted to do one, but my competitive nature refused to let me enjoy the race if I wasn’t coming in first. I finally decided to run a half marathon for my 50th birthday and it was the best lesson for me. Even though I was in the bottom third of finishers I finally realized the truth, I should only compare my results with me. Was I better than before? When you place a limit on what you will do, you place a limit on what you can do.

Henry Ford - “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,” emphasizes how much attitude determines success or failure.

Things you can do to remain positive and keep motivated:

1. Do the right thing- even if it is hard

2. Practice small discipline daily for a specific area

3. Celebrate small victories

4. Embrace a positive vision

5. Take responsibility for your life

6. Remind yourself often that you are worth it
